Blue Gemstone Beaded Dangle Earrings with Sterling Silver

"Fountain" Earrings

These beaded gemstone earrings, like the coordinating "Fountain" necklace, were inspired by a passage from Hawthorne's The Marble Faun about the consequences of sin. The tranquil colors of the aquamarine and black-gold amazonite recall the colors of water and pebbles, and the sterling-silver earwires feature teardrop shapes that allude both to the fountain in the story and to the tears of the character Donatello, his ancestor, and the water nymph who was driven away by her love's guilt.

Although Donatello doesn't find immediate relief from his own sorrow and guilt, he does eventually recover some of the old happiness he had lost. Wear these earrings not as a means of dwelling on human shortcomings but instead as a celebration of the fact that even the most profound errors can be turned to some good end.
