"Sunshine" Earrings
These earrings, which coordinate with the "Sunshine" necklace and bracelet and the "Sunlight" necklace, are based on the chapter of the same name in Hawthorne's The Marble Faun. The color of their coin-shaped citrine beads recall the character Donatello's family wine and the sunshine for which it's named.
The wine, like sunshine itself, gives a passing pleasure, all the more precious because it cannot last. And yet, like sunshine, the vineyard from which the wine is produced has long been a source of enjoyment. These earrings are a poignant and beautiful reminder to enjoy pleasure while we can and to remember the potential for delight even when the pleasures that incite it are absent.
Both the citrine beads and the smaller wood accents are faceted so that they reflect light variously. These earrings, with their warm tones and mix of wood and gemstone, are perfect accessories for casual, safari-chic looks in summer and fall, but they can just as easily be paired with a dressier ensemble. They'd also make a wonderful gift for a loved one who lights you up.
